On 27 April UCU’s national executive voted 23-9 to take part in a coordinated strike against pension cuts on 10 May.
This action will affect post-92 universities everywhere, and colleges in England and Wales (UCU don’t organize in FE in Scotland). Unfortunately, pre-92 universities will not be on strike but the PCS and sections of the RMT and Unite will also be on strike so it’s important students organise action to support our education workers.
The UCU motion includes a mandate to approach other unions to plan further action, including both national strikes and rolling strikes, and to announce these plans on 10 May. UCU will also be approaching other unions about local demonstrations on May 10th.
We’ll post updates as we have them – but start organising your anti-cuts and women’s groups to support the action!
